9.5.2024. The Last Oath + Lord Gallery + Atrocia @ Anthems of Steel VI, Chauvigny
I drove to this concert for two hours, so I could meet with Stephane, metalhead who I met on Hammerfall concert! He told me that Anthems of Steel festival is great, and since I was "in the corner" I went to first evening warmup and it was great! The Last Oath is a post punk, death rock band, first band of this genre that I saw live. They had great melodies, I really loved guitar solos, and the singers energy was awesome! Mix of Joy Division, The Cult, and sometimes Motörhead vibes. Lord Gallery was so fun, heavy metal with speed elements, and lyrics talk about Vendée history and myths. It felt like we are in the 80s! So uplifting! Atrocia is a death metal band, it feels like they have most experience and their show was impecable! Brutal growling, energetic songs, I was transported into a different, brutal world. I met some new metalheads, talked with band members of The Last Oath and saw Stephane, that was cool! :)
21.9.2024. Sarmates @ Brasserie de l’Apocalypse, Vernon
Raph told me about Sarmates, metal band inspired by the cultures and melodies of the steppes, and that they were performing in a brasserie close where we live. I had to go !:) I invited Agnieszka, a neighbor and a friend, to go with me. The brasserie is in the middle of the forest, perfect spot for a metal concert!
The concert was absolutely fantastic ! The singer is using various vocal techniques of singing, ranging from guttural singing, occasional growling and clean singing. They use one traditional instrument, I think it’s called saz, and I think they even modified one of the guitars so it has similar sound.
Anyway, the band has absolutely fantastic melodies, never heard something like that. On the concert, they performed with the group that does spectacles with fire, so we had a chance to see people blowing fire, carrying wings of fire, and having a battle with fire swords. Concert was amazing, and I traveled to a far away lands with this awesome band.
